Specifics and Bid Approved for Storm Lake Well Project

The Storm Lake City Council on Monday approved the specifics and a bid for a new production well project.

Public Works Director Matt Beckman says the new well will be located in Frank Starr Park, and will replace a well that hasn’t been in service for the last year…(audio clip below)

One bid was received from Sargent Drilling for a little over 1.5-million dollars. The bid is 31-percent over the engineer’s estimate, but Beckman said City staff didn’t recommend rebidding the project would lead to a lower bid based on the current bidding environment. City Manager Keri Navratil said the money will be taken from the City’s water fund, and also American Rescue Plan funding.

Work on the new well is expected to start this coming fall.
