Duarte Arrest

On Wednesday March thirteenth at approximately 11 pm, the Storm Lake Police Department and Storm Lake Fire Department were dispatched to Royal Laundromat located at 221 West Milwaukee Avenue in Storm Lake, for a report of a trash can on fire outside of the building. On arrival, the fire was found to have been extinguished by bystanders. Minor property damage was observed and no injuries were reported. Police reviewed surveillance video and observed a suspect, identified as Dany Duarte, age 46 of Storm Lake, use a lighter and start a trash can on fire inside the laundromat. The fire eventually spread, and several subjects used water to extinguish the fire and remove the trash can from the building. Duarte fled the scene prior to the officers’ arrival. This (Thursday) morning at approximately 1 am, police located Duarte at West Milwaukee Avenue and Ontario Street and took him into custody without incident. He was transported to Buena Vista County Jail and charged with Arson-1st Degree, a Class B Felony. Duarte was booked and held on $25,000 bond. The Storm Lake Police Department was assisted by the Storm Lake Fire Department.
