Emmetsburg Woman Receives Prison Sentence for Illegal Firearm Possession

An Emmetsburg woman was sentenced last Thursday to spend more than two years in federal prison for illegal possession of a firearm.

36-year-old Andrea Crystal Lee pleaded guilty in December to Possession of a Firearm by a Prohibited Person. Evidence showed that during a probation check on January 24th of last year, methamphetamine and drug paraphernalia were located in Lee’s home. Lee was on state probation for Possession of a Controlled Substance. A search warrant was secured, and law enforcement found a loaded nine-millimeter handgun concealed in a floor vent, as well as ammunition and magazines. Lee was prohibited from possessing firearms and ammunition.

Lee was sentenced in Sioux City Federal Court to a total of 27 months in prison. She must also serve a three-year term of supervised release after the prison term. Lee was being held in the U.S. Marshal’s custody until she could be transported to a federal prison.

The case was investigated by the Palo Alto County Sheriff’s Office and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives. The case is part of the Project Safe Neighborhoods program.
