Drier Weather Allowed More Fieldwork Last Week; Some Corn and Soybeans Planted

Dry conditions last week and warmer-than-normal temperatures helped Iowa farmers have nearly five days suitable for fieldwork, according to the latest USDA Crop Progress Report.

Over 4.5 days were suitable for fieldwork in northwest Iowa.

Some corn and soybeans were planted last week. The report says four percent of the expected corn acreage in the state has been planted. 88 percent of northwest Iowa oats have been planted with 38 percent emerged. Statewide, 66 percent of oats are planted with 20 percent emerged.

39 percent of northwest Iowa topsoil is either short or very short of moisture, down five percent from the week before.

44 percent of subsoil in northwest Iowa is short or very short of moisture, nine percent less than the previous week.
