Several Volunteer Opportunities Available During Storm Lake Proud Week

Storm Lake Proud Week is set for next week from May 8th through the 13th.

The City of Storm Lake encourages individuals and groups to volunteer next week to make the community the best it can be. Mayor Mike Porsch recently issued a proclamation setting the special week of clean-up and improvement efforts.

There are several tasks to be completed during Storm Lake Proud Week including painting park benches and picnic tables…cleaning up debris in the parks, in ditches around the golf course, the Discovery Center, in the 13th Street and Magnolia Lane area, and the water way near the Memorial Ballfield. Other jobs that need to be done include mulching, sealing wood sculptures, washing art lighthouses, and picking up trash along the railroad from Dorinda Street to Memorial Road to Lakeshore Drive.

Registration for volunteers will be set up at a picnic table in Sunset Park. Bags and other supplies will be provided. Volunteers should dress appropriately for outside work, including closed-toe shoes and gloves. Contact Kim Woltman at Storm Lake City Hall for more information. Other ideas for betterment projects are welcome.

The final event of the week will begin in Sunset Park on Saturday, May 13th from 9am to noon. The public is invited to come work in the park during that time.

Storm Lake Proud Week has started early, as Cub Scouts cleaned up the stormwater basin at the West 9th ballfield this week.
