Man Charged Following Dirt Bike Pursuit in Storm Lake

A Storm Lake man received multiple charges following a pursuit related to illegal operation of a dirk bike.

According to the Storm Lake Police Department, at approximately 4:15 Thursday afternoon, an officer attempted to stop the off-road dirt bike in the 500 block of Cayuga Street. The dirk bike was being driven by 33-year-old Velly Kim, who failed to stop for the officer and accelerated, which led to a pursuit over several residential city blocks in the southern area of Storm Lake. The pursuit ended when Kim stopped the bike in the 100 block of Irving Drive, and he was taken into custody. After Kim was arrested, officers located a small amount of marijuana on his person.

Kim was charged with Eluding, a class D felony…and 3rd Offense Possession of a Controlled Substance, an aggravated misdemeanor. He was also issued several traffic citations including Reckless Driving, Careless Driving, No Valid Driver’s License, No Proof of Insurance, Operating a Non-Registered Vehicle, Driving on the Wrong Side of the Road, Speeding, Failure to Yield to an Emergency Vehicle, and ten counts of Failure to Obey a Stop Sign.

Kim was booked into the Buena Vista County Jail on a 73-hundred dollar bond.
