Tornadoes Beat Spencer Behind Dvergsten’s No-Hitter

Charlie Dvergsten struck out 18 batters and fired a no-hitter leading Storm Lake to a 4-0 win over visiting Spencer in the Lakes Conference opener for both teams.

Dvergsten was sensational as he threw 91 pitches and allowed only one base runner all night. Lewis Vulk reached 1st base on a swinging strike out in the 5th inning. Dvergsten, now 3-0, has struck out 46 batters in 20 innings pitched this season.

Storm Lake batted around in a four run 2nd inning stringing together five straight hits off losing pitcher George Lawson. Braxton Jensen had an RBI double which was followed by Brock Edwards’ two-run single, and Allan White would later score Edwards with a double.

With the win Storm Lake is now 6-2 overall and will play Friday at home versus Le Mars. Spencer falls to 5-3 overall.
