Mustangs To Play For 1A Championship Saturday Night

Newell-Fonda beat Remsen-St. Mary’s 60-35 Friday afternoon to advance to the class 1A State Championship game. This will be the 6th time in the last seven years that the Mustangs will play for the 1A State title and the 9th time in the last 12 seasons.

Kierra Jungers scored 14 points and grabbed eleven rebounds, Kinzee Hinders had 13 points, and McKenna Sievers added 12 points. The Mustangs shot 47 percent for the game.

The Hawks Carmindee Ricke scored a team high 12 as Remsen-St. Mary’s lost for the first time this year and conclude their season at 24-1.

The Mustangs, now 24-2, will play North Linn (25-1) for the 1A State championship Saturday night at 7pm. The game will be broadcast on Mix 101.7FM KAYL. Newell-Fonda beat North Linn in the semi-final round in last year’s state tournament 66-48.

The Mustangs will be seeking their 5th state title having won championships in 2015, 2019, 2020, and 2021.
