The East Sac County Raider soccer teams opened the season Monday night on the road against the Logan-Magnolia Panthers with the Raider Girls winning 4-0 and the Raider Boys winning 9-1
The girl’s match saw Kenna Meyer connect on her first goal of the season in the first five minutes of the match to give the Raiders an early 1-0 lead. Meyer wasn’t done as she would score her second of the game with 17:07 to go as the Raiders would go up 2-0. The Raiders would tack on two more goals in the final 15 minutes of the opening half as Chloe Bieret would set up Cora Mahler with a tally (13:04) and Bieret would get her tally (3:17) to give the Raiders the 4-0 lead at the break.
In the second half, the Raiders would clamp down on defense and weather the push that the Panthers threw their way as the Raiders would go on to win 4-0. The win improves the Raiders to 1-0 and drops the Panthers to 0-1. Raider stats: Kenna Meyer 2 goals (Player of the game), Chloe Bieret 1 goal and 1 assist, Cora Mahler 1 goal, and Denae Thayer picked up the shutout victory in net. Up next the Raiders play Thursday evening at 1A #14 Panorama at 6:00 pm (the game will be broadcast on KKIA)
The boy’s game saw two different Panther keepers play, three yellow cards, two Raiders collected hat tricks and the teams combined for 10 goals. The Raiders would open up the game with a Brendyn Conn goal just 2:38 into the game. The Raiders would fire in back-to-back goals in the middle part of the half to lead 3-0 and prompt a keeper change. The Raiders would push with a strong six-minute stretch and tally another two goals from Riley Aragon (8:30) and Sam Schmitt (2:19) to bolster the lead to 5-0 at the break. After the halftime break, the original keeper would return after the second Panther keep would get hurt late in the first half. The Panthers would cut the lead to 5-1 with a goal in the first ten minutes of the second half, however, the Raiders would answer with four consecutive goals and go on to win 9-1.
The win improved the Raiders to 1-0 and dropped the Panthers to 0-1. Raider stats: Isaiah Aragon 3 goals and 3 assists, Riley Aragon 3 goals and 2 assists, Brendyn Conn and Sam Schmitt both had goals, and Luke Wernimont made 13 saves on 14 shots. The Panthers also scored an own goal during the match. Up next: The Raiders travel to Panorama on Thursday night and will play following the girl’s game (boys’ match will be broadcast on KKIA)
