Storm Lake Man Gets Five Years for 2025 Assault, Child Endangerment

A Storm Lake man has been sentenced to prison for a 2025 assault that left a woman with a broken jaw and endangered a child.

Forty‑eight‑year‑old Sidney Pino Becquer was sentenced Tuesday in Buena Vista County District Court by Judge Carl Petersen. The case stems from a Sept. 19, 2025 incident, when the Storm Lake Police Department responded to a 911 call and found a woman with serious facial injuries. Investigators said Pino Becquer had violently assaulted the victim during a domestic dispute while she was holding a child.

The victim’s injuries included a broken jaw, and she required emergency medical treatment.

Pino Becquer entered a written guilty plea on Feb. 26 to assault causing serious injury, a Class D felony, and child endangerment, an aggravated misdemeanor. A remaining charge was dismissed under the plea agreement.

At a contested sentencing hearing, prosecutors argued for prison time. Judge Petersen imposed a sentence not to exceed five years with the Iowa Department of Corrections. The sentences on both counts will run concurrently.

The case was investigated by the Storm Lake Police Department and prosecuted by Assistant County Attorney Ashley Herrig, with County Attorney Paul Allen representing the State at sentencing.
