A massive hay pile lit up the night sky in Holstein on Tuesday, drawing a multiagency response.
Holstein firefighters spent about four hours on the scene of the blaze, which broke out at a rural location. The department says crews arrived to find a large hay pile burning intensely, requiring an extended response and steady work to keep the fire contained.
Firefighters remained on scene extinguishing flames and cooling hot spots before clearing early Wednesday morning. No injuries were reported.
The Holstein Fire & Ambulance Association says the size of the hay pile and the amount of burning material made the call labor intensive, and mutual aid was requested to help keep the fire from spreading. Departments from Galva, Quimby and Washta all responded, providing extra manpower, water supply and equipment.
Holstein fire officials say those partnerships were essential in bringing the fire under control and supporting crews as they worked late into the night. The department thanked all firefighters involved for their time and effort.
The cause of the fire wasn’t released. The Holstein Fire & Ambulance Association says they’re grateful for the cooperation among departments and the volunteers who stepped in to protect the community.
