The Storm Lake Police Department was called to the 900 block of East 5th Street in Storm Lake on Monday April 22nd at approximately 5:47 PM, in response to a one vehicle rollover accident. According to the police report, upon arrival, police found a male subject, later identified as 26 year old John Garcia of Storm Lake, fleeing the scene of the accident. Police chased Garcia on foot and apprehended him in the 500 block of Oates Street. Police allege that evidence on scene indicated Garcia was operating the vehicle involved in the accident and showed signs of alcohol impairment. According to police, Garcia was operating a 2005 Dodge Neon eastbound on East 5th Street when he lost control of the vehicle, leaving the roadway, and striking an unoccupied parked vehicle, mailbox, no parking sign and tree, which caused the vehicle to roll over on its side. Garcia suffered minor injuries in the accident and was transported to the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for treatment. The vehicle received an estimated $10,000 in damages. Garcia was charged with Driving While Barred, an Aggravated Misdemeanor; Reckless Driving, a Simple Misdemeanor; Striking Fixtures, a Simple Misdemeanor; and No Insurance, Accident-Related, a Simple Misdemeanor. Garcia was transported to the Buena Vista County Jail and booked on a $4,218 bond.
