Upper Des Moines Opportunity next week will be conducting a count of the homeless population in the 12-county area they serve.
Tanya Thelen, UDMO Housing Services Coordinator, says they’re required to do the count each year by federal officials…(audio clip below :20 )
Thelen says the count will be conducted next week, between January 23rd and 27th…(audio clip below :25 )
Thelen says after the data is collected, UDMO reports all of the information from the counts into their Homeless Management Information System, and then the Institute for Community Alliances takes the numbers and reports them to the Department of Housing and Urban Development.
The homelessness count will be taking place in counties including Buena Vista, Calhoun, Clay, Palo Alto, Pocahontas, and Sac, Webster.
