Storm Lake Man Sentenced to Prison on Drug Related Charges

A Storm Lake man has been sentenced to serve up to 20 years in prison for drug-related offenses.

In May, 29-year-old Donaciano Cortes pleaded guilty to Deliver of Methamphetamine and Delivery of Cocaine, both class D felonies. He was sentenced on Monday in Buena Vista County District Court to a prison term of ten years for each charge, which will run consecutively.

In September of 2021, the Buena Vista County Attorney’s Office filed a multi-county trial information charging Cortes with delivery of nearly 30 grams of methamphetamine on two different occasions in February of 2020, and delivery of cocaine on a third occasion in March of last year as part of controlled purchases by the Storm Lake Police Department.
