Storm Lake Man Sentenced to 25 Years in Prison for Attacking Girlfriend

A Storm Lake man was sentenced on Monday in Buena Vista County District Court to serve up to 25 years in prison for attacking his girlfriend with a knife.

On May 16th, 30-year-old Edgardo Ruedas pleaded guilty to Attempt to Commit Murder, a class B felony. He must serve at least 70-percent of the sentence before being eligible for parole.

Ruedas was arrested by Storm Lake Police on March 3rd for attacking his girlfriend with a large knife late that night at their home at 1 Marks Court. The victim suffered severe wounds to her face and right hand. A two-year-old child was present in the residence during the attack, but was not injured.

Several other charges were dismissed as part of a plea agreement. Ruedas was also ordered to pay restitution to the Crime Victim Compensation, as well as other fees.
