Tornado siren tests in Storm Lake and Lakeside will happen for longer than normal this weekend.
A City of Storm Lake news release says tornado sirens on Saturday, May 4th will be tested for three minutes, which will be extended from the usual short blast weekly test. The test is to ensure that the tornado safe room at Lakeside City Hall unlocks as designed by radio signal when sirens are activated for an emergency. The short blast isn’t lengthy enough for that test. Lakeside sirens are activated jointly with those in Storm Lake.
This will be a drill only. Saturday’s test will be rescheduled if there is actual threatening weather that day.
