A local dairy is among 20 in the state awarded a “Choose Iowa Dairy Innovation Grant.”
Chad Fertig of Wall Lake is receiving 35 thousand dollars to go toward a dairy parlor expansion project.
The grants are meant to increase on-farm dairy processing, incorporate labor-saving technology, and expand the availability of Iowa dairy products. The recipients were announced on Thursday by Iowa Secretary of Agriculture Mike Naig.
Grant awardees must have fewer than 50 employees, and be in good standing with pertinent regulatory agencies. Only dairies permitted and inspected by the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship were eligible.
