Man Charged for Attempting to Commit Burglary to Recycle Center in Spencer

A man has been charged for attempting to commit a burglary last week at a Spencer business.

According to the Spencer Police Department, the Clay County Communications Center received a report from the Shine Brothers Corporation at around 2:15am last Wednesday, April 12th of a burglary in progress at their location at 225 10th Avenue Southeast. Upon the arrival of Spencer Police, they discovered that the night security guard at the business had the burglar detained and in handcuffs.

During the investigation, it was determined that 46-year-old Christopher Mortimore of Spencer had entered a building on the Shine Brothers property and attempted to commit a theft when he was detained by security. During the arrest, officers discovered that Mortimore was also in Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Mortimore was transported to the Clay County Jail. He was booked on charges of 3rd Degree Burglary, a class D felony…and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a simple misdemeanor.
