Iowa Crops Emerged Continues at a Good Pace

Nearly all planting activities in Iowa are finished, and emergence numbers are strong, according to the latest crop progress report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

There were limited reports of crop replanting in certain fields. With only isolated rain showers last week, there were nearly six days suitable for fieldwork in northwest Iowa and statewide.

Corn emergence statewide reached 94 percent, which is one week ahead of last year, and eight days ahead of the five-year average. 97 percent of corn in northwest Iowa has emerged. 72 percent of corn statewide is in good or excellent condition.

Soybean emergence is at 87 percent, and that’s ten days ahead of last year, and 12 days ahead of the average. Northwest Iowa soybeans emerged is also at 87 percent. Soybeans rated good to excellent is at 70 percent.

55-percent of northwest Iowa topsoil is either short or very short of moisture.
