Iowa Corn Planting Has Began

Seven-percent of Iowa’s expected corn crop has been planted, according to the latest crop progress report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

The amount of corn planted in the state is almost two weeks ahead of last year, and six days ahead of the five-year average. The same amount of northwest Iowa corn has been planted at seven-percent.

Over one-third of the state’s oat crop was planted last week to reach 51-percent statewide. 38-percent of oats have been planted in northwest Iowa.

37-percent of topsoil in northwest Iowa is either short or very short of moisture, with 60-percent adequate, and three-percent surplus.

There were over four-and-a-half days suitable for fieldwork last week in northwest Iowa, and over five days were suitable statewide.
