The U.S. Department of Agriculture on Monday released their first Iowa crop progress report for the 2023 growing season.
The report says minimal fieldwork occurred over the last week. Some producers were able to apply anhydrous, manure, and dry fertilizer. A few instances of oat seeding were reported. Livestock is faring well overall.
There were no days suitable for fieldwork last week in northwest Iowa, with just 1.6 days suitable statewide.
23-percent of topsoil in northwest Iowa is either short or very short of moisture, with 70-percent adequate, and seven-percent surplus. Frost in the topsoil was still being reported in parts of the state.
