DNR Investigating Manure Discharge Into Battle Creek

The Iowa Department of Natural Resources is investigating a manure discharge that occurred in Ida County.

The discharge reportedly happened three miles south of Holstein at the Kim Conover cattle feedlot. The discharge occurred during land application of liquid waste from a runoff control structure when the hose broke at the pump, which caused manure to flow about a quarter-mile before reaching Battle Creek.

The DNR says a fish kill has not been observed. An investigation is ongoing.
