Drought Conditions Continue to Get Better

This week’s Iowa Drought Monitor shows continuing improvement in drought conditions in the state.

Nearly 15 percent of the state has no drought conditions whatsoever, a three percent increase from last week. Much of northwest Iowa continues to have no drought conditions including portions of Clay, Cherokee, and Ida Counties, and all of O’Brien County. All of Buena Vista County is considered Abnormally Dry.

85 percent of Iowa is experiencing at least Abnormally Dry conditions, which is five percent lower than last week. Two-thirds of the state is plagued by at least Moderate Drought, down three percent from last week. Severe and Extreme Droughts are both down slightly.

Showers and thunderstorms are likely in much of the state early next week, including the Storm Lake area.
