Two Individuals Sentenced for Involvement in Incident Outside a Storm Lake Casey’s Store

Two individuals were sentenced last Wednesday, April 24th in Buena Vista County District Court for their involvement in an assault incident outside of a Casey’s store in Storm Lake.

According to news releases from the Buena Vista County Attorney’s Office, 22-year-old June Phiengsai of Schaller and 22-year-old Gabriel Catarino-Rodriguez of Storm Lake both pleaded guilty in February to Participating in a Riot, a class D felony. Phiengsai was granted a deferred judgment and was placed on probation for two years with the Iowa Department of Corrections. Catarino-Rodriguez was sentenced to a suspended prison term and was also placed on probation for two years with the Iowa Department of Corrections.

Phiengsai, Catarino-Rodriguez, and two other individuals were charged in connection to the incident that occurred on October 8th of last year in the parking area of the Casey’s store at 825 Flindt Drive. A male victim was parked when two separate vehicles pulled into the parking lot and blocked the victim from leaving. Storm Lake Police alleged that the individuals exited both vehicles and approached the victim’s vehicle, forcefully entered the vehicle, and struck the victim multiple times with their fists. The victim then backed out of the parking spot and struck one of the blocked vehicles. The suspects fled the scene and were apprehended shortly thereafter.
