Buena Vista County Emergency Management Coordinator Aimee Barritt this (Tues) morning recapped the events that led to the early morning damage from 70 mile-per-hour straight line winds in the Storm Lake area in the early morning hours this past Friday.
Barritt spoke at the BV County Supervisors meeting, and said the National Weather Service issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for BV County at 12:59am Friday…

Buena Vista County has received a state disaster designation. Barritt said the state will not be seeking a presidential disaster declaration because the damage threshold won’t be met to make that request. Barritt said there were no injuries in Friday’s storm.
BV County Engineer Bret Wilkinson said the wind knocked down a lot of signs around the county. He said some of them still need to be picked up, and there is still a decent amount of debris in ditches.
