A late defensive stand helped preserve a 7-6 win for Storm Lake in their home opener as they held on to defeat Council Bluffs-Jefferson Friday night at Tornado Field.
All of the scoring in the game came in the 1st quarter and for Jefferson they scored on their first possession of the game when quarterback Deon Hill scored on a four yard run capping off an 11-play 68 yard drive. They missed the extra point.
After the Tornadoes got a defensive stop late in the 1st quarter Brock Edwards threw a strike to David William for an 81 yard touchdown and Julian Muniz-Rodriguez made the extra point to give Storm Lake the lead 7-6.
Late in the 4th quarter the Yellow Jackets kept the ball for seven minutes but were stopped at the Tornadoes 4-yard line with 1:53 to go and the Tornadoes would run out the clock for the win.
Storm Lake had 119 yards of offense in the game with Edward completing 5-of-9 passes for 102 yards. David William, who left the game in the 3rd quarter with an injury, had three receptions for 93 yards and a score.
Storm Lake, now 1-1, will host MOC-Floyd Valley next Friday. CB-Jefferson falls to 0-2.
