Walker Earns Weekly A-R-C Honor

Buena Vista junior Mary Walker has been recognized by the American Rivers Conference this afternoon by being named the A-R-C Women’s Basketball Performer of the Week for the period ending Nov. 16.

Walker was a big force on the court for the Beavers during their two games this past week by averaging 22.5 points, 8.5 rebounds and 4.5 steals per game as Buena Vista went 1-1 overall.

During the team’s convincing 73-51 road win at Macalester College on Friday, Nov. 14, Walker scored a team-high 21 points, including three makes from downtown, grabbed nine boards and recorded four steals. She followed that performance up on Saturday afternoon by scoring a game-high 24 points, hauling in eight rebounds and notching five steals during a tough 66-65 road loss at St. Olaf College. It marked her highest point total during her young Beaver career as well as her best total since pouring in 25 points last season while playing at DMACC in a game against Iowa Central.

For the year, Walker leads BVU and is ranked second in the A-R-C in scoring at 17.8ppg, is fourth in the league in three-point percentage (.529; 9-of-17) and third in steals per game (2.5).

This marks the second straight week to begin the season that BVU has landed the Performer of the Week honor after sophomore Bradi Krager was recognized last week.

Buena Vista is 2-2 on the year and is set to host Grinnell College in a non-conference showdown on Thursday, Nov. 20, at 6 p.m. inside of Siebens Fieldhouse. The game will be broadcast locally on 97.5FM KBVU.
