The Storm Lake basketball teams both picked up wins Tuesday night over visiting Pocahontas Area. The girls game was close the entire way and Storm Lake would win 61-57. Storm Lake’s biggest lead was nine points at 41-33 in the 3rd quarter. The Indians would go on a 13-2 run to take a 46-44 lead into the 4th quarter.
Storm Lake would take the lead for good with just under four minutes to play as they improve to 7-3 on the year. The Tornadoes were led by Adeeya Yanga’s 22 points and Avery DeHaan added 15. The Indians were led by Jenna Vonnahme’s 18 points as Poky falls to 4-4 overall. Click below to hear from Storm Lake coach Nate Reichter.
The Storm Lake boys scored 53 first half points in a 102-74 victory over Pocahontas Area. Jaidyn Coon scored 27 points, Cam Boyd had 22, Justin Guynn had 20, and Carson Lullmann scored a career high 13 points and the Tornadoes move to 6-2 on the season.
Pocahontas Area’s Ethan Behrens scored 16 while Caleb Roberts added 12 and Christian Valenzuela chipped in with ten points and the loss drops the Indians to 0-7.
