Ridge View Sweeps in Ida Grove

The Ridge View girls started tonight’s (Fr) doubleheader by pulling away in the 2nd half in their 50-28 win at OA-BCIG.

The Raptors never trailed and led by as many as five in the 1st half at the end of the 1st quarter. OA-BCIG got within one point on three occasions in the 2nd quarter but couldn’t grab the lead, and Ridge View took a 14-12 advantage at halftime.

Madison Stowater began a 5-0 run to start the 3rd quarter by drilling a three for Ridge View. Mya Henningson hit a buzzer-beating three to end the 3rd quarter to make it 33-20, and the Falcons only got one point closer than that early in the 4th.

Stowater scored 16 of her 18 points in the 2nd half. Faith Freese followed with 12 for the Raptors. Brady Youngren led the Falcons with 9 points. Ridge View now sits at 3-4 on the season, while OA-BCIG goes to 0-7.

The boys game was tight most of the way, but Ridge View pulled away late in their 49-37 victory.

The 1st quarter saw five lead changes and a tie, and Ridge View led 17-12 after eight minutes. The Raptors led by as many as seven early in the 1st half early in the 2nd quarter. The Falcons fought back to tie the score at 25-25 at halftime.

OA-BCIG took a three point lead early in the 3rd quarter, but went on a five minute-plus scoring drought. Ridge View scored eight straight points and led 33-30 after the 3rd quarter. A basket by Jaxx DeJean got OA-BCIG within 37-35 with just over four minutes left. The Raptors responded with a 6-0 capped by a basket by Cayden Clausen. Ridge View ended the game on a 12-2 run.

Six of Clausen’s 10 points came in the 4th quarter. Carter Todd added 9 for the Raptors, and Zach Kolpin and Kinnick Jensen each had 8. Anthony Newquist had 14 to lead the Falcons.

The Ridge View boys are now 4-3, and OA-BCIG drops to 3-3.

The Ridge View teams close out the 2023 part of the schedule with games Monday at Manson Northwest Webster, and then Tuesday at Newell Fonda. Tuesday’s games will be broadcast on 92.9FM KKIA.

The OA-BCIG teams play Tuesday at home against Cherokee, and then Thursday at South Central Calhoun. Thursday’s games will be broadcast on KKIA.
