Storm Lake Boys Are State Tournament Bound

Jaidyn Coon scored a career high 39 points and grabbed 15 rebounds and the Storm lake boys basketball team beat Gilbert 73-57 Monday night at Siebens Fieldhouse in Storm Lake.

Gilbert led 35-33 at the half only to have Storm Lake start the 3rd quarter on a 16-4 run to take a 49-39 lead with four minutes to go in the quarter and they never looked back.

Coon scored 13 of his 39 points in the 3rd quarter and finished the game 11-of-22 from the field including 4-of-9 from the arc and he was 13-of-14 at the free throw line. Cam Boyd, who was plagued by foul trouble all night added 14 points and David William chipped in with nine and Timothy Yanga added seven.

The Tornadoes outscored Gilbert 40-22 in the 2nd half as they advance to their first State Tournament since 1994.

Storm Lake, now 22-1, is seeded 4th at the 3A State Tournament and will play ADM Monday, March 10th at 7:15pm.

Clear Lake is the #1 seed and will face Central DeWitt in their first round game March 10th at 5:30pm. The other first round games in Class 3A will be on Tuesday, March 11th when Knoxville faces Xavier and Ballard plays MOC-Floyd Valley.

The semifinals are March 13th and the championship game will be played March 14th at 3pm.
