Josie Hernandez hit three homeruns, Avery DeHaan added a grand slam, and the 14th ranked in 4A Storm Lake softball team was victorious 18-7 in six innings tonight (Mon) at Cherokee.
The Tornadoes scored the last 11 runs of the game after it was tied 7-7 after the 2nd inning. Hernandez hit a two-run homer in the 2nd, a three-run blast in the 3rd, and finished off her longball trifecta with a solo shot in the 6th. DeHaan ended up 4-5 at the plate, Kennadie Miller and Lillie Hoffman each had two RBI’s, and MacKenzie Harder and Maddy Raveling each drove in a run. The Tornadoes had 17 hits in the game, and they’ve now hit 13 homers on the season.
Raveling pitched the final five innings and struck out nine batters. Storm Lake is off to the best start in school history, now 12-0 overall, and 3-0 in the Lakes Conference. Cherokee drops to 1-13, 0-5. Hernandez, DeHaan, and Raveling talked after the game…
Storm Lake plays tomorrow (Tues) at home against Carroll. The Tornadoes host #5 in 3A Estherville Lincoln Central on Wednesday, which will be broadcast on 97.5FM KBVU.
