The Newell-Fonda Mustang baseball knocked off the Pocahontas Area Indians 6-1 in conference play
The Mustangs would open the first inning with two baserunners when Ryan Greenfield walked and Carter Sievers single. The Mustangs would then cash two runs in the opening frame with groundouts from Mason Dicks and Ty Tauber. The Indians would answer back in the bottom of the first when Trevor Sturhenburg doubled in Lucas Kopriva to cut the Mustang lead to 2-1 after one. Both teams would go three up and three down to keep the score 2-1 after two innings. The Mustangs would add runs in the third and fifth innings to expand their lead to 4-1 after six innings. The Mustangs would collect two more runs in the top of the seventh and went on to win 6-1.
With the win the Mustangs improved to 10-4, 4-1; the loss dropped the Indians to 3-9, 2-2
The Player of the Game was Ryan Greenfield who tossed a complete game for his second win of the season (7IP, 9K, 5H, and 1 Run) while also going 1/2 at the plate (1 walk, 1 single, reached on an error, and scored two runs)
