A six-run 6th inning helped the Newell Fonda softball team put an early end to a 12-2 win over Ridge View in Fonda tonight (Tues).
The Raptors scored a 1st inning run on three hits, which included an RBI single by Morgan Wright. The Mustangs retaliated with three runs in their half of the 1st on three bunts, two of which turned into hits, as well as another single.
Emma Erickson padded the Newell Fonda lead by driving in the next three runs. Erickson had a two-RBI single in the 2nd, and an RBI single in the 4th to make the score 6-1. An RBI groundout by Chloe Gottschalk in the top of the 6th cut the lead to 6-2. The Mustangs batted around in their half of the 6th, as Mia Walker and Anna Mercer each had two-RBI singles, Jocee Walsh drove in a run with a groundout, and Greta Larsen drove in the game-ending run with a two-out single to right.
Mia reached base in all four plate appearances, including three hits, two RBI’s, and four runs scored. Mercer pitched all six innings, as she allowed only one more hit after the 1st inning, and registered six strikeouts. Raptors pitcher Tatum Shepherd struck out ten batters.

4th ranked in 1A Newell Fonda is now 15-4 on the season. The Mustangs play tomorrow (Wed) at Storm Lake St. Mary’s in a varsity only game at 5:30pm.
Ridge View (9-7) plays tomorrow at Lawton Bronson, with varsity first at 5:30.
