Sioux Central Girls Victorious in State Tourney Debut

Playing in their first-ever state tournament game, the Sioux Central girls basketball team defeated Eddyville Blakesburg Fremont 52-48 Tuesday night in a 2A quarterfinal.

The Rebels never trailed in the game. They jumped out to a 9-0 lead. Sioux Central led by as many as 16 at 26-10 at the end of the 1st quarter. EBF slowly chipped away and got within three in the final seconds, but Morgan Christian hit the back end of two free throw attempts with 7.9 seconds left for the winning margin.

Avery Wilson led three Rebels in double-figures with 17 points, going five of seven from three-point territory. Christian had 13, and Bradi Krager added 12.

Sioux Central is now 23-1. The Rebels will play top-seed Dike New Hartford in the semifinals Friday at 10am. The game will be broadcast on Mix 101.7FM.
