Pocahontas Area Downs East Sac

Lucas Kopriva’s three touchdown passes helped Pocahontas Area to a 28-6 win Week 5 win over East Sac County in Wall Lake.

Kopriva threw a nine-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Sommerlot to cap off a 12-play, 80-yard touchdown drive to make it 7-0 midway through the 2nd quarter. After East Sac lost a fumble on the first play of the ensuing series, the Indians drove 46 yards in five plays, capped by Kopriva’s 14-yard touchdown pass to Blake Roberts, and Poky led 14-0 at halftime.

East Sac went three and out to start the 3rd quarter, but their punt was fumbled by Poky, and the Raiders recovered deep in Indians’ territory. On the very next play, Tate Lahr ran a 19-yard touchdown to make it 14-6. Poky answered with a 67-yard scoring drive, as Sommerlot’s one-yard touchdown run extended the lead to 20-6. Midway through the 4th, Kopriva’s third touchdown pass, a ten-yarder to Gabe Ehn, and two-point pass to Roberts, provided the final margin.

Poky racked up 351 yards of offense, and held East Sac to just 66. Sommerlot ran 34 times for 143 yards.

East Sac’s Karter Ludwig intercepted a pass on the very first play of the game, which he ran 41 yards to the end zone, but it was called back due to a block in the back. Roberts and Ryan Panbecker picked off passes for Poky, as they won the turnover battle for the first time this season three to two.

Both teams are now 2-3 overall. Poky is 1-1 in 1A district 2, while East Sac drops to 0-2 in the district.

Pocahontas Area plays next week at Emmetsburg, while East Sac has their homecoming game against Eagle Grove.
