Brysen Kolar threw six touchdown passes as OA-BCIG cruised to a 49-14 win over Shenandoah in Ida Grove in the 1st round of the 1A playoffs.
The Falcons six scoring drives in the 1st half consisted of only a total of 15 plays. A 31 yard touchdown from Kolar to Ethan Behrendsen on the Falcons 2nd possession, followed by Kelton Ladwig’s PAT made it 7-0 with 7:30 left in the 1st quarter…
After OA-BCIG got the ball back following a turnover on downs, a 51 yard pass to Ladwig set up goal to go at the one. Three plays later, Blake Corbin caught a two yard touchdown pass to make it 14-0 with 1:51 to go in the 1st quarter…
The Mustangs capitalized on an interception that gave them the ball at the Falcons 22 and scored on a quarterback sneak by Jade Spangler to cut the OA-BCIG lead to 14-7 with 11:06 to go in the half. The Falcons then erupted for 35 unanswered points. On the ensuing possession, Behrendsen’s second touchdown catch, a 45 yarder, made the score 21-7. After a three and out, the Falcons took three plays to go 54 yards, capped by Ladwig’s 12 yard touchdown run. Later in the 2nd quarter, Jack Gilbert caught a 12 yard touchdown.
A shanked punt late in the 1st half gave OA-BCIG the ball at the Mustangs 43 yard line, and one play later Jaxx DeJean’s 43 yard touchdown catch with 23 seconds left in the half made it 42-7 at halftime…
There were 20 possession between the two teams in the 1st half, but with a continuous clock in effect for the 2nd half, there were only five possessions during the 3rd and 4th quarters. After Shenandoah lost a fumble on a backwards pass in a goal to go situation on the opening drive of the 3rd quarter, OA-BCIG put together a 12 play 80 yard drive that lasted 5:30. Kolar’s 33 yard touchdown throw to Gilbert pushed the lead to 49-7 with just over ten minutes remaining.
Shenandoah marched 65 yards to the end zone on the next series, as Spangler scored on another quarterback sneak.
The Falcons racked up 479 yards offensively. Kolar completed 16 of 22 passes for 358 yards and six touchdowns. Behrendsen had five catches for 130 yards and two touchdowns. Ladwig rushed 18 times for 79 yards and a touchdown.
Shenandoah intercepted three passes. OA-BCIG’s defense also had three takeaways, including a fumble recoveries by Isaac Neubauer and Gavin Remer, and an interception by Bodie Hansen. OA-BCIG will play in a round of 16 game next Friday at home against 8th-ranked Treynor (8-1) at 7pm. The game will be broadcast on 92.9FM KKIA. Also in that pod next Friday, #2 Underwood hosts AHSTW. The winning teams will play in a 1A quarterfinal round game on Friday, November 3rd.
