Newell Fonda Softball Blanks Glidden Ralston in Region Semifinal

Anna Mercer had four RBI’s as #4 Newell Fonda cruised to a 10-0 six-inning win in Friday’s 1A region semifinal round in Fonda.

Mia Walker’s RBI triple and a sacrifice fly RBI by Emma Erickson gave the Mustangs a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning. In the 3rd, Newell Fonda loaded the bases with nobody out on a leadoff double by Mary Walker, followed by back to back walks to Mia and Emma Erickson. Mercer cleared the bases with a centerfield double. McKenna Sievers added an RBI groundout to pad the lead to 6-0.

The Mustangs scored two more times in the 4th, including Mercer’s RBI single. Mercer also scored via an error. Greta Larsen ended the game early in the 6th with a one-out two-RBI single up the middle.

Newell Fonda tallied nine hits. Mia earned the win in the circle with a one-hitter and seven strikeouts.

Newell Fonda ups their record to 28-8, ending the Wildcats season at 15-8. The Mustangs will host a region final this coming Monday, July 10th against #9 Fort Dodge St. Edmond (22-11) at 7pm. The game will be broadcast on 97.5FM KBVU, and the audio will also be streamed on our website. Newell Fonda beat the Gaels in Fonda in the season opener 7-1.
