Newell Fonda Hoops Squads Beat Spencer

The 2nd ranked in 1A Newell Fonda girls began Friday’s doubleheader with a 76-36 win at Spencer.

The Mustangs led 38-13 at halftime. They shot 51 percent from the field and made ten of 26 threes. Three Mustangs scored in double figures including Kierra Jungers with 18 points, Isabel Bartek had 16, and McKenna Sievers chipped in 13 points.

Comments from Mustangs coach Dick Jungers…

“We got off to a slow start and were down 6-0 nothing out of the gate. We turned the ball over and gave them a few transition opportunities to start the game, once we settled in we were able to get good looks from the outside and we finished on the inside. This was a great way to go into the break.”

The Newell Fonda girls are now 9-1 on the season.

The Newell Fonda boys won their 3rd in a row by defeating Spencer 51-47.

The Mustangs led 30-22 at halftime and held off a Spencer rally as the Tigers got within three during the 4th quarter.

The Newell Fonda boys are now 5-5 on the season.
