Sioux Central Girls Keep Rolling; Boys Win Thriller

The #5 in 2A Sioux Central girls began Tuesday’s Twin Lakes Conference doubleheader sweep with a 64-29 win over Alta Aurelia in Sioux Rapids.

The Rebels never trailed as they jumped on top 10-0. Sioux Central led by 15 after the 1st quarter, were up 33-12 at halftime, and a three by Bradi Krager put the continuous clock rule in motion with just under four minutes left in the 3rd quarter.

Krager led four Rebels in double figures with 19 points. Morgan Christian, Avery Wilson, and Preslie Peterson all had 12. Hayden Berkland topped the Warriors with 8 points.

The Sioux Central girls 10th win in a row puts them at 13-1, 5-1 TLC. Alta Aurelia goes to 8-7, 4-4.

The boys game went down to the wire and Sioux Central prevailed 51-48 to avenge a loss to Alta Aurelia earlier in the season.

Sioux Central was ahead by one after the 1st quarter, and led 28-22 at halftime. The Rebels lead stood at 45-38 with under six minutes remaining, but three baskets by Ayden Dullea and then one by Mason Barnes put the Warriors in the lead 46-45. The advantage was short-lived as a turn-around shot by Koen Glover gave the Rebels the lead back for good at 47-46. Owen Mills hit two free throws with 39 seconds left to extend the lead to 49-46. Dullea hit a layup to make it a one-point game again. Jack Christian was fouled with 19 seconds left and connected on both free throws for the winning margin. Alta Aurelia missed a three in the final seconds.

Free throws proved crucial, as Sioux Central was 18-19, while Alta Aurelia was just 2-12. Mills led the way with 20 points, and Glover was next on the Rebels with 16. Dullea had 17, and then Adam Stephan contributed 14 for the Warriors.

The Sioux Central boys are now 4-8, 3-4 TLC, dropping Alta Aurelia to 9-5, 6-2.
