Storm Lake teams split games at Cherokee

Avery DeHaan scored a game high 16 points and Maddy Raveling added 12 and Storm Lake beat Cherokee Tuesday night 46-37. It was the Tornadoes first win over the Braves in more than 14 years.

DeHaan hit a buzzer beating three to end the first half to give Storm Lake their first lead of the game at 17-14. The Tornadoes took control in the 3rd quarter holding the Braves to only two field goals as they carried a nine point lead into the 4th quarter. Raveling went 4-for-4 at the free throw line in the final minute.

Storm Lake is now 9-6 overall and will host Fort Dodge Thursday night. Cherokee falls to 10-5.

The Cherokee boys defeated the Tornadoes 67-65. Jaxon Paulsrud led four Braves in double figures with 14 points. The Tornadoes were led by Jaidyn Coon who had 27 points, 10 rebounds, and three blocked shots. Charlie Dvergsten made four 3-pointers and scored 12.

The Tornadoes are now 7-6 overall and will play again Monday when they host Spencer. Cherokee moves to 6-8 overall.
