Mustang Softball Team Claims Consolation Win At State

Anna Bellcock went 3-for-4 and drove in four runs and Kierra Jungers pitched a complete game in Newell-Fonda’s7-1 win over Lisbon in a consolation gameof the class 1A state softball tournament Wednesday afternoon in Fort Dodge.

In a rematch of last year’s championship game the Mustangs plated three first inning runs and never looked back in winning their 36th game of the year.

After Lisbon plated a run in the top of the first inning, Bellcock delivered a two-out two-run single to put the Mustangs ahead for good. She would laterdeliver a two run single in a 3-run 6th inning thatput the game away. Besides Bellcock’s three hits, Mia Walker added two and the Mustangs totaled six for the game.

Jungers pitched all seven innings and picked up her 27th of the season. The sophomore gave up an unearned run on four hits while striking out 12 and walking one.

Newell-Fonda concludes the season with a record of 36-5. Click below to hear from head coach Courtney Darrow.
