ELC hoops sweep Tornadoes

Owen Larson scored 15 of his game high 23 points in the 2nd half leading E-L-C to a 62-58 win Friday night at Tornado Fieldhouse.

Storm Lake led 36-29 at the half and carried a one point lead into the 4th quarter. With the Midgets leading by one late in the game Aaron Armstrong hit a huge three to make it 60-56. Tim Yanga made a pair of free throws to make it 60-58 but Larson would seal the win making a pair of free throws with 3.6 left in the game.

Armstrong finished with 11 points and E-L-C moves to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in the conference.

Storm Lake’s Justin Guynn and Jaidyn Coon each scored 18 points. The Tornadoes made 8-of-17 from behind the arc and they sank 12-of-13 at the free throw line.

E-L-C had only four turnovers while the Tornadoes committed 14. The loss drops Storm Lake to 7-5 overall and 2-3 in the Lakes.

The E-L-C girls, who are ranked 4th in class 3A, beat Storm Lake 50-33. The Tornadoes were held without a made field goal in the 4th quarter and scored only 12 points in the 2nd half.

Haylee Stokes scored a game high 22 points for the Midgets who are now 12-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference.

Avery DeHaan scored a team high nine for the Tornadoes who fall to 8-6 overall and 0-5 in the Lakes Conference.

The Storm Lake teams will play again Tuesday night at Cherokee.
