South Central Calhoun and Pocahontas Area Basketball Teams Split Doubleheader

–The Pocahontas Area Indians girls basketball team defeated the South Central Calhoun Titans 66-46; while the Titan boys basketball team defeated the Indians 80-43

–The girls game saw the Titans jump out to a 6-2 lead. However, the Indians would answer with a 13-2 burst to lead 15-8. The Indians would lead 16-10 after the first quarter. The Indians would roll in the second quarter with a 19-6 run in the frame to lead 35-16 at the half. The Indians would lead by as many as 25 in the third quarter and would go on to win 66-46.

The Indians improved to 5-6 and the Titans fell to 4-8. The Indians were led by Jenna Vonnahme (Player of the Game) had 18 points, Khloe Mefferd had 13 points (3/6 from 3pt), and Madison Vial added 12 points; while the Titans were led by Mia Babcock with 15 points, Blair Schleisman added 13 points, and Bre Patterson had 12 points.

–The boys game saw the Indians jump out to a 5-4 lead. The Titans would roll on a 17-4 run to lead 21-9. The second quarter saw the Titans and Gavin Batta get hot from behind the arc and score 29 in the second quarter. The halftime score was 50-20 in favor of the Titans. The Titans would lead by as many as 40 in the second half en route to an 80-43 win.

The win improved the Titans to 8-3 (now an 8-game winning streak), and the Indians fell to 0-10. The Titans were led by Gavin Batta (Co-Player of the Game) with 30 points (12 points in the first quarter, 17 points in the second quarter, and 1 point in the third quarter), Keegan Soard added 17 points and Cole Higgins with 14 points; the Indians were led by Ethan Behrens with 17 points (Co-Player of the Game), and Lucas Kopriva had 8 points.

–Up next for the Titans they will host Alta-Aurelia on Thursday night and the Indians will host Algona on Thursday night
