Alta Aurelia Boys Stay Undefeated in Conference Play ; East Sac Girls Win

The Alta Aurelia boys basketball team stayed alone atop the Twin Lakes Conference with a 63-57 win over East Sac County to wrap up tonight’s (Fri) doubleheader in Alta.

Alta Aurelia led by one after the 1st quarter, and carried a 33-26 lead at halftime. The Warriors got the lead to double figures in the 3rd quarter, but East Sac County narrowed the margin to two. Alta Aurelia never relinquished the lead however, and scored five straight off a timeout, and were up 49-44 after the 3rd quarter. A jumper by Adam Stephan pushed the lead to 12 with a minute remaining, but the Raiders put together a 6-0 run to cut the lead in half, and got the ball again via a turnover with 13 seconds left, but were unable to score despite multiple opportunities and the clock ran out.

Jack Bloom led the Warriors with 22 points, including four of the team’s eight threes. Cam Stites had three from downtown, including a couple of crucial ones in the 2nd half. Stites had seven in the 4th quarter and ended up with 13. Stephan chipped in with 15.

Ryan Clair had 23 to lead the Raiders, followed by Sam Julin with 13, and Caleb Eichorn had 12.

Alta Aurelia is now 9-3 overall and 6-0 in the TLC, dropping East Sac to 9-3, 5-2.

The East Sac girls never trailed in their 57-51 victory over Alta Aurelia.

The Raiders led 15-8 after the 1st quarter, and 27-16 at halftime. East Sac stretched the lead as big as 14 in the 3rd, but Alta Aurelia closed the gap to four later in the quarter, but Sarah Bontrager followed with a three for the Raiders, and then led by eight going to the 4th.

Addisen Ehler was one of three in double figures for the Raiders with 21. She scored their first nine points of the game, and had 13 in the 1st quarter. Bontrager had 14, and Kendall Quirk had 10. Ehler talked afterward…

Nora Peterson scored a game-high 26 for the Warriors.

The East Sac girls improve to 5-8, 3-4 TLC. Alta Aurelia goes to 7-6, 3-3.

The Alta Aurelia teams play makeup games tomorrow (Sat) night at South Central Calhoun in Lake City.

The East Sac County teams host Storm Lake St. Mary’s for makeup games Monday in Lake View.
