East Sac County and Pocahontas Area basketball teams split doubleheader Tuesday night

–The East Sac County Raiders and the Pocahontas Area Indians split a doubleheader Tuesday night with the Pocahontas Area Girls winning 50-15 and the East Sac County boys winning 75-41

–The girl’s game saw the Indians jump to a 10-0 lead. Also, the Indian defense did not allow the Raiders to score before Sarah Bontrager made a pair of free throws with 1:35 to go. The Indians would lead 13-2 after one. The Indian offense would explode in the second quarter scoring four of the first five points to lead 17-3. Chole Bieret would score the first Raider field goal with 5:52 in the half. The final 5:52 of the first half saw the Indians outscore the Raiders 19-0. The Indians would go to the half up 38-5. The Indians would go on to win 50-15.

The win improved the Indians to 4-2, and the loss dropped the Raiders to 3-3. The Indians were led in scoring by Natalie Point (Mark Hansen’s Rex Chevrolet/GMC Player of the Game) with 13 points and Madison Vial with 10 points; the Raiders were led in scoring by Sarah Bontrager with 7 points and Addisen Ehler with 6 points. –The boy’s game saw a see-saw first quarter as the Indians opened up the game with an 8-1 run. The Raiders would storm back with a 12-2 run keyed by a Caleb Eichorn bucket that gave the Raiders the lead, to lead 13-10 after the first. The game would see its only tie in the second quarter with the teams knotted up at 13. After that Luke Wright would get the basket that would give the Raiders the lead for good with 6:03 to go in the half at 15-13. Following that, both Sam Julin and Caiden Auen would make three-pointers promoting an Indian timeout with the Raiders leading 21-13. The Raiders would finish the final 3:50 on a 16-2 run to lead 37-15. The Indians would get as close as 16 and the Raiders would lead by as many as 35 en route to the Raiders 75-41 win.

The win advances the Raiders to 5-0 for the first time since 2019, the Indians fall to 0-5. The Raiders were led in scoring by Sam Julin with 18 points, Luke Wright with 16 points, and Caleb Eichorn (Mark Hansen’s Rex Chevrolet/GMC Player of the Game) with 13 points. The Indians were led by Ethan Behrens with 13 points. UP NEXT: The Indians play host to Sioux Central Friday night and the Raiders play host to GTRA Friday night
