Dutch Defeat Storm Lake In First Round Of Baseball Playoffs

M-O-C Floyd Valley defeated Storm Lake 11-1 in six innings Friday night in a sub-state quarter-final game played at Orange City.

The Dutch scored an unearned run in the 3rd inning to take a 1-0 lead and then hit Tornado starting pitcher Charlie Dvergsten for four runs on four hits in the 4th inning and they add another three runs in the 5th and again in the 6th inning.

Dvergsten was tagged for eight runs, seven earned, on nine hits he struck out six and walked two. Allen White pitched two-thirds of an inning and allowed three runs.

The Tornadoes had four hits and Allan White delivered the Tornadoes only run with an RBI single in the 5th inning.

Storm Lake concludes their season with a record of 12-13. The Dutch, now 23-6, will play Sergeant Bluff-Luton Monday in the sub-state semi-final round.
