Charlie Dvergsten picked up his team leading sixth win of the season pitching six solid innings and the Storm Lake baseball team beat MOC-Floyd Valley 9-4 Friday night in Storm Lake.
The Tornadoes scored two runs on five singles in the first and then scored four runs in the 2nd inning thanks to six consecutive singles. The Dutch scored all four of their runs in the 4th inning to cut their deficit to 6-4 only to watch the Tornadoes plate three more runs in the 5th inning.
In six innings of work, Dvergsten gave up four runs (not all were earned) on five hits, struck out seven and walked five. Edgar Barreiro pitched the final inning.
Leading the 16 hit barrage were Dvergsten, who went 3-for-3 with a walk and three runs scored. Barreiro went 3-for-4 with 3RBI and two runs scored. Jake Eddie, Carson Lullmann, Brody Boeckman, and Aiden Phillips all collected two hits.
MOC-Floyd Valley falls to 19-7. The Tornadoes snap a four game losing streak to the Dutch and improve to 18-6 on the year and will play again Monday at home vs. Cherokee.
