The Newell Fonda baseball team secured a share of the Twin Lakes conference championship tonight (Thur) with a 12-0 win in five innings over Sioux Central in Fonda.
The Mustangs scored four runs in the 1st inning as they sent eight batters to the plate. Newell Fonda batted around in a five-run 2nd, which featured a two-RBI hit by Mason Dicks. They added three in the 3rd, including a two-RBI single by Mason Hoberman.
Seven Mustangs had at least one RBI in the game, including two by Zach Mercer. The Mustangs base running got the nod for the Mark Hansen’s Rex Chevrolet GMC of Odebolt Play of the Game, as they were ten for ten in stolen bases.
Max Carlson pitched the first three innings to get the win with four strikeouts, and Ryan Greenfield struck in five over the final two innings.
The Rebels had two hits in the game on singles by Carter Boettcher and Ethan Mills.
Newell Fonda finishes with a 9-1 record in the Twin Lakes, and share the conference title with Alta Aurelia. Comments from Mustangs coach Bo Darrow can be heard below…
Newell Fonda improves to 17-5 overall. They are scheduled to play in the ELC tournament on Saturday.
Sioux Central is now 8-9, and finish 6-4 in the TLC. The Rebels visit LeMars Gehlen tomorrow (Fri).
