Two SL Elementary Students Win 2026 Star Spangled Spectacular Art Contest

The Star Spangled Spectacular Committee has announced the winners of the 2026 Children’s Art Contest, held under this year’s theme, “Built on Freedom. Bound by Community.”

The contest included two categories: a coloring page competition for kindergarten through second grade, and a poster design contest for third- and fourth-graders.

Scout Freking‑Smith, a second-grader in Ms. Ventura’s class at Storm Lake Elementary, won the coloring page division for her bold, colorful design. She is the daughter of Zach and Joanna.

Lilliana Kurr, a fourth-grader in Ms. Hayes’s class, earned top honors in the poster design category for her patriotic, anime‑inspired artwork. She is the daughter of Marsha Yoma.

Both students received gift bags from the Sugar Bowl Gift Shop and will ride in The Big Parade on July 4th as part of the Star Spangled Spectacular festivities.

The committee congratulated the winners and thanked all participating students, noting that the artwork reflects the creativity and community pride that define the annual Independence Day celebration.
