Fundraising for Storm Lake’s 2026 Star Spangled Spectacular kicks off Monday, June 1, as volunteers launch the annual campaign supporting one of northwest Iowa’s largest Independence Day celebrations.
Organizers say thousands of people gather along the lakefront each year for two days of family activities, live entertainment, and the community’s signature fireworks show. This year’s fundraising goal is $50,000, with more than 700 letters going out to past donors and new supporters.
Fundraising co‑chairs Josh Newhouse and Matt Brostad say community support is what keeps the event growing.
Brostad said the celebration “belongs to the community,” noting that every parade entry, concert, firework and activity depends on local contributions.
The 2026 celebration also coincides with America’s 250th anniversary, and organizers are encouraging residents to join a special “250 Club” by making a commemorative $250 donation. Newhouse said the milestone offers a meaningful way for supporters to mark the anniversary while helping fund the event.

This year’s donor recognition levels include the 1776 Society ($1,000+), Liberty Bell Ringers ($500–$999), Patriots ($350–$499), the 250 Club ($250), Skyrockets ($200–$349), Firecrackers ($100–$199) and Sparklers (up to $99).
The 2026 Star Spangled Spectacular will be held July 3-4, featuring returning favorites and new additions, including The Big Parade, the Ride‑Run, the Kiddie Parade, the Classic Car Cruise, food and shopping vendors, the Patriotic Ceremony, fireworks and live music. The PetRock Band will perform at 7 p.m. on July 3.
The event is entirely volunteer‑led and community‑funded, with donations supporting entertainment, fireworks, insurance, equipment, T‑shirts, postage and other operational needs.More information is available at StarSpangledSpectacular.net.
